Name: Jason M Jones
Party: Republican
Office sought: Town Council At-Large
Town: Enfield
1. What do you think are the most important issues facing your town?
2. If elected, what would be your highest priorities for the next 2 years?
First is a close examination of our budget. We need to change the way we do this by examining it line by line from the bottom up. Departments need to justify each expense, show the Council it is money well spent before it gets into the budget. Second, improved communication is a must. There has been a major lack of under the current majority for the past 4 years. We need increased communication between the Council and the community, the Council and our Boards & Commissions and on the Council itself. We need people who will govern openly & honestly and value the opinion of everyone. Without communication, anything else anyone wants to accomplish is not going to work.
3. How is your approach to town government different from your opponent(s)?
Speaking in generalities, the Republicans believe in open inclusive government that values the opinion of the public and all Council members. We realize that your money is hard earned and we want to make sure that the least amount possible is contributed to property taxes. We take nothing for granted. The past 4 years have proven that the Democrat majority does not feel the same way.
4. Why do you want to be elected to town government?
I feel that Enfield is at a crossroads in the direction we take. I feel that my experience as a former Councilman and a Planning & Zoning Commissioner will help bring us in the right direction. As a lifelong resident, I have a great love for my community and an understanding of what it will take to govern efficiently and will always put the best interests of the community above all else.
