In 2003, Stratford voted to change its chartered form of Government from Council/Manager to Mayor/Council. The office of Mayor is elected in the year following Presidential elections to a four year term. Mayor James R. Miron (D) was elected in 2005 as Stratford's first mayor.
Stratford has a ten member Town Council, each elected to two year terms. Current members:

Stratford's Board of Ed is comprised of seven memebers elected at large, with four members elected in the year following a Presidential election and three members elected in the year following a mid-term.
Stratford has three "land use" boards: Planning, Zoning and Zoning Board of Appeals. Each has five members with each member representing two of Stratford's ten council districts. Terms are four years and are elected on an alternating basis with two or three seats on each board up every two two years.
Stratford also has seven Constables (at large, two year terms).
In total, there are 40 elected officials in Stratford.
